Take a stroll along the historical town of Fort Cochin . This experience will set the tone for our days in Kerala. Fort Cochin is an intriguing blend of medieval Portugal, Holland and an English Village that has drawn traders and explorers to its coasts for over 600 years. The area is a cultural mix of a 400 year old synagogue, ancient mosques, Portuguese houses and remains of the British Raj.
Get an insight of Jewish settlers who arrived in Cochin after expulsion in Spain as well as the history of Kochi’s Jewish community. The synagogue is a significant part of Cochin’s history and a must visit.
St Francis Church
Visit St. Francis Church, the oldest church built by Europeans in India . Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama was originally buried here but his remains were later transferred to Lisbon.
Santa Cruz Basilica church
The heritage of this cathedral is attributed to the Portuguese settlers.
Chinese Fishing Net
The Chinese Fishing nets are common sights along the Cochin shores usually filled with fisherman throughout the day. Stop to view the nets but more so to view the amazing sunset on the horizon.
The Dutch Palace was originally known as Mattancherry Palace, a generous gift presented to the Raja of Kochi, Veera Kerala Varma by the Portuguese. While the Dutch renovated the palace in 1663, its astonishingly preserved Hindu murals, depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranic legends remain in intricate detail.
Spice Garden tour
This garden’s plants have all the spices used across Indian cooking including turmeric, coriander, chilli, cumin, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg as well as plants like vanilla.
